Epic Games announces the availability of an application that converts real-life objects into 3D models on Android

Epic Games developer has announced that the RealityScan application is now available for Android users, as this free download pictorial application can create high-resolution 3D models of objects just by using multiple images of them taken from smartphones or tablets .
The Unreal-powered app has been exclusive to iPhone users since December 2022.
The app also allows users to export these 3D models to Sketchfab to share with others.
Users can also download these models to access them in other applications such as Unreal Engine or Twinmotion.
RealityScan will be available for ARCore-enabled Android phones and tablets running Android 7 (API level 24) or higher.
Meanwhile, iPhone and iPad users need their devices to be running iOS 16 or higher to access the app.
The company notes that the latest update to RealityScan also provides a "simplified user interface and easier workflows."
This version of the app supports a new step-based workflow that takes users through the scanning process.
Users can also go back through the steps if they need to make changes.
RealityScan will also enable users to easily find and delete offline images from the project library.
Users can also add new images to replace unwanted ones.
The latest version also includes a built-in Sketchfab viewer tool that helps users open a preview of the final model (as it will appear in Sketchfab) directly from the project library.
Apart from this users can also add and edit a name and description for the project which will be automatically synced with Sketchfab.
In a blog post, Epic mentioned that users can export their 3D models to Sketchfab for free.
However the number of templates users can upload to their Sketchfab account per month will depend on their Sketchfab plan.
The company also notes that users will be automatically upgraded to Sketchfab Pro for free for one year upon first download.
Epic also claimed that the RealityScan iOS app saw more than 200,000 downloads after it was released to iPhone users in 2022.
Since then, thousands of models have been created by the community and uploaded to Sketchfab, the company added.
